Dr. Amanda D. Martin

Dr. Amanda Martin has research interest in traumatic injuries in athletes and their return to sport, psychosocial factors affecting injury outcomes, injury avoidance and management in soccer, and combined fracture and ligament injuries.

Dr. Amanda Martin specializes in arthroscopy of the hip, knee, shoulder and ankle, as well as the management of complex fractures. She is fellowship trained in Orthopedic Sports Medicine by the American Sports Medicine Institute under the leadership of Dr. Lawrence Lemak. Dr. Martin has also completed her AO Trauma fellowship at The University of Cape Town in South Africa.

Dr. Martin is a graduate of the University of Arizona and the University of Arizona Paris. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry in December 2000, and completed her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences in May 2005. While in medical school Dr. Martin served on the Board of the American Osteopathic Association and was active on many national boards and committees with emphasis in health policy.

Dr. Martin completed her internship and residency at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, School of Osteopathic Medicine where she served as chief resident and president of the National Residents Council for Orthopaedics. Presently, she is the team physician for Miles College, and was the assistant team physician for the Camden Riversharks professional baseball team and New Jersey area high schools.

Dr. Martin has research interest in traumatic injuries in athletes and their return to sport, psychosocial factors affecting injury outcomes, injury avoidance and management in soccer, and combined fracture and ligament injuries. Dr Martin has given many podium presentations and authored several articles including studies of radiation exposure in hip arthroscopy, and arterial pressure in shoulder arthroscopy. She is in the data collection phase of her current research interest: injury surveillance and return to play of professional football players, the motor ability of adolescents with long and short arm cast, and functional movement screening in high school athletes.

Dr. Martin was a collegiate athlete and remains active. She is always up for a road race and competes in several 10K’s and half marathons each year. Any given weekend you can find her on the sidelines of a football game, playing soccer, running the trails of Alabama and playing golf.
