Dr. Robert Agee, Jr. (Bobby Agee) is recognized as one of the leading resources for primary care sports. He is the lead physician in the first line of defense for clients non-operative sports medicine needs at Lemak Sports Medicine and Orthopedics.
Lemak Sports Medicine and Orthopedics specializes in sports medicine, arthroscopy and reconstruction of the knee, shoulder, hip and elbow.
Dr. Robert E. Agee, Jr. attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia and Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. A California native, raised on the Presidioof San Francisco, he returned to California to train in Family Practice at the UCSF-Fresno medical residency program. In 1999, Dr. Agee completed a sports medicine fellowship in Birmingham at the American Sports Medicine Institute, which was co-founded by sports medicine pioneer
Dr. Lawrence Lemak.
Dr. Robert Agee Jr. is a fellowship trained sports medicine physician who has a decade of training and experience caring for athletes and performers around the world. Prior to coming to Birmingham, he was the chief of Primary Care Sports Medicine at Kaiser Permanente in California, one of the largest hospital systems in the United States. During that time Dr. Agee also worked as a team physician for the University of California at Berkeley where he covered various intercollegiate team sports, and most notably was the head team physician for the National Champion Cal Rugby Team.
In addition to his collegiate athletic post, Dr. Agee served nine years as a medical consultant to the NFL-Europe league providing sideline coverage and medical care for professional football players overseas. Celebrities and entertainers, whose performance demands domestically and internationally call for discreet and immediate medical attention, have also called on him.
Dr. Agee has proudly held the post as the volunteer medical director for the San Francisco –Redwood Empire Pop Werner football district providing quality care to hundreds of urban youth in the inner cities of California. Presently, he can be seen on the sideline of a range of middle school, high school and college level games and events throughout Alabama. He is the current head team physician for Alabama State University athletics and supports Samford and Miles University in their athletic care. As well as covering traditional sports Dr. Agee also has handled a wide range of sporting events from Golden Gloves Boxing to Gymnastics.
Dr. Agee is recognized as one of the leading resources for primary care sports medicine having spoken at national and international conferences and meetings. He has been published in scientific journals and quoted in popular press including Ebony magazine, Fox News and ESPN Sports Radio.
In 2005, Dr. Agee was invited to address members of Congress, the White House staff and Olympic Committee on anti-doping to discuss drug testing and Olympic athletes. His most recent research interests center around providing a quality spectrum of care for all athletes through health disparities research and programs.
