Dr. Anthony L. Tropeano

Dr. Anthony Tropeano joined Lemak Sports Medicine and Orthopedics In October 2011, Dr. Tropeano is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who offers full time services at our Sylacagua location located inside the Coosa Valley Medical Plaza. Upon completion of his fellowship with Dr. Lemak in 2002, he has been devoted to sports safety offering free injury clinics and being involved in community and college athletics.

Dr. Tropeano offers a variety of orthopedic and sports medicine coverage to Sylacauga and surrounding counties. He specializes in reconstruction of the hip, shoulder, knee and elbow. Dr. Tropeano is one of only a few orthopedic surgeons in Alabama who are specially trained to provide patients the option of a minimally invasive approach of an anterior total hip replacement.

After graduating from Birmingham Southern College, Dr. Tropeano received his Medical Degree from The University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1995. He completed his orthopedic residency at The University of South Alabama, and went on to complete his Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute in August 2002. In July 2004, Dr. Tropeano became board certified by the American Society of Orthopedic Surgery.  

Dr. Tropeano has served as the team physician for the The University of Mobile, Springhill College and Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, PA. He has also served as the Medical Director of the Athletic Training Programs for The University of Mobile and Slippery Rock College.  While practicing in the Demopolis area, Dr. Tropeano served as team physician for several high schools in the surrounding communities.

Dr. Tropeano currently serves as team physician for Talladega County schools, which include Winterboro High School, Fayetteville High School, Childersburg High School, Sylacauga High School and B.B. Comer High School. 

Dr. Tropeano is affiliated with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. For the past three years, Dr. Tropeano has served as the Chief of Staff of Bryan W. Whitfield Community Hospital in Demopolis, Alabama.

Dr. Tropeano and his wife, Danielle, have five daughters and one son – Alexa, Ana Catherine, Gabriella, Giselle and Tristan. During his spare time, Dr. Tropeano enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, snow skiing, and golfing.
